Dr. Hou Guang Director & Partner, Doctor of Science, Senior Patent Attorney Dr. Hou graduated from the University of Science and Technology of China. He holds dual practicing qualifications as a lawyer and a patent attorney, with nearly 20 years of professional experience. He was awarded Outstanding Lawyer of Haidian District in 2020 and selected for the U50 Elite IP Lawyers List in 2024. Having practiced at top-tier intellectual property law firms in China for many years, he currently serves as Director and Partner of Beijing Huanrun Law Firm. Dr. Hou focuses on intellectual property legal services in high-tech sectors including telecommunications, computers, software and artificial intelligence. He has extensive expertise in patent prosecution, invalidation, litigation, standard-essential patent (SEP) dispute resolution, software copyright and open source compliance, and IP due diligence. He has advised global technology enterprises such as Samsung Electronics, Google and SK. As lead counsel, Dr. Hou handled the full series of SEP licensing disputes between Huawei and Samsung Electronics, including the SEP royalty litigation on behalf of Huawei, as well as patent infringement and invalidation proceedings between the two parties — all widely regarded as industry-defining cases. He also led the team representing CATL in a major patent infringement dispute, and successfully secured a favorable settlement for the client. He possesses deep practical experience in core contentious issues such as SEP validity assessment, standard essentiality analysis, and FRAND royalty calculation. In terms of industry development, Dr. Hou chaired the editorial boards of Selected FRAND Cases and Selected FRAND Literature. He also participated in key projects including the research on the design of the patent agency assistance system by the All-China Patent Attorneys Association, and the overseas IP litigation case analysis program by the Capital Intellectual Property Services Association. 02
