Explanation of Indicators Patent-intensive industries refer to the collection of industries that meet the specified standards in terms of invention patent intensity and scale, participate in market competition relying on intellectual property rights, and conform to the orientation of innovation-driven development. Value-added of patent-intensive industries refers to the value-added created in production activities by all resident units of China’s patent-intensive industries during a certain period. Resident units refer to economic entities that have a center of economic interest within the economic territory of China. Production refers to the activities of creating new outputs of goods and services under the responsibility, control and management of institutional units, using factors such as labor and capital. 2. Accounting Classification The accounting classification of patent-intensive industries is based on the Statistical Classification of Intellectual Property (Patent)-Intensive Industries (2019) and adopts a two-tier classification system.The first-tier classification divides economic activities into 7 major categories:information and communication technology manufacturing,information and communication technology services,new equipment manufacturing,new material manufacturing,pharmaceutical and medical industry,environmental protection industry,and R&D, design and technical services. The second-tier classification further subdivides the first-tier categories into 188 sub-categories of national economic industries. 3. Accounting Method and Data Sources The value-added of patent-intensive industries is calculated using the income approach.The basic data required for accounting are mainly derived from the national economic census data, relevant professional statistical data of the National Bureau of Statistics, national economic accounting data, etc. |
